Informed Consent & Preparation
The process of obtaining informed consent
Before the procedure, the NOVACELL team meets with the patient to discuss all available treatment options: stem cell therapies, plasmapheresis , IV therapies, potential benefits, risks, and alternatives. Patients receive clear, understandable information and have the opportunity to ask questions.
The patient is informed about his rights and obligations, as well as about all aspects of therapy that may influence his decision.
After obtaining all the information and dispelling any doubts, the patient signs the informed consent form, confirming that he or she understands the nature of the procedure, the risks and the alternatives.
Preparation for the procedure
Before the procedure, a detailed medical interview is conducted, including a review of medical history, current medications, and any allergies. The patient completes an extensive medical questionnaire (QUESTIONARE.pdf), which allows for an individual risk assessment and treatment eligibility.
The patient receives recommendations regarding taking or discontinuing specific medications, diet, hydration, and any necessary fasting before the procedure. Logistical assistance is provided if necessary (e.g., for international patients).
The physician assesses whether the patient meets the criteria for stem cell therapy, analyzing laboratory and imaging test results, among other factors. Eligibility is individualized and based on current guidelines and the patient’s health status.
The Stem Cell Procedure
Autologous cell collection
- Cell sources: In NOVACELL, stem cells can be collected from the patient's own body (autologous) – most often from adipose tissue (liposuction).
- Download process: Fat collection for the isolation of mesenchymal cells (MSC) is performed using minimally invasive liposuction, also under local or general anesthesia.
- Safety and comfort: The entire cell collection process is conducted by an experienced, certified medical team, with emphasis on patient comfort, safety, and privacy. The patient is monitored throughout the procedure.
Preparation and administration of cells
Collected cells are immediately transferred to the laboratory for isolation, purification, and quality control (purity, viability, and absence of microbial contamination). Advanced quality monitoring technologies such as ChromaLIVE ™ and AutoHCS ™ are utilized.
Cells are administered to the patient intravenously (for a systemic effect) or locally (e.g., into a joint, muscle, or organ, depending on the indication). The procedure is performed in a comfortable environment, maintaining complete privacy.
Most procedures are minimally invasive and allow for same-day return home. Patients remain under observation until the effects of anesthesia wear off and stable general condition is confirmed.
Aftercare & Recovery
Individual recommendations after the procedure
- Patient Instructions: After the procedure, the patient receives personalized, written instructions regarding home care, physical activity restrictions (usually for 24–48 hours), injection/collection site care, and symptoms to watch for (e.g., redness, swelling, pain, fever).
- Symptom monitoring: The patient is instructed when and in what situations he should contact the clinic immediately (e.g. symptoms of infection, increased pain, unusual reactions)
Post-hospital care and support
- Follow-up and follow-up appointments: Follow-up appointments or teleconsultations are scheduled to monitor the healing process, assess the effects of therapy, and modify recommendations as needed. Each visit is documented, and results are compared with baseline data.
- Constant contact with the team: Patients have access to the medical team for questions or concerns. The clinic also offers emotional support and access to additional resources if needed.
- Long-term monitoring: In some cases, long-term patient monitoring is performed to assess the durability of the treatment effects and safety.
