Before DFPP: Medications, Diet, Travel, and Checklist
Medicines
- Most medications can be taken as usual, but before the procedure, you should provide your doctor with a complete list of all substances you are taking. Your doctor will assess whether a change in dosage or temporary discontinuation of certain medications is necessary.
- If you are taking medications that affect blood clotting or have a tendency to low blood sugar, be sure to inform your doctor during the consultation.
- Blood thinning medications (e.g. heparin) may be administered during the procedure.
Diet
- On the day of the procedure, eat a regular, light meal – do not arrive on an empty stomach!
- If you are susceptible to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), inform your doctor and bring some snacks or sweets with you.
- Stay hydrated before the procedure to facilitate IV insertion.
Journey
- We recommend that someone accompany you to your first treatment. After the procedure, you may experience brief dizziness due to the anticoagulant medication.
- Most patients can return home on their own, but safety is a top priority – especially after the first procedure.
