The DFPP treatment path: from consent and preparation, to procedure and aftercare
1. Consultation and consent
The first step is a medical consultation – the doctor conducts a detailed medical interview, analyzes test results, and answers all the patient’s questions. At this stage, the patient receives full information about the procedure, its benefits and potential risks, and signs an informed consent form.
2. Preparation
Before your DFPP procedure, it is necessary to perform basic laboratory tests (blood count, coagulation parameters, virological tests), which must be no older than three months. We recommend arriving at the clinic approximately 20 minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork. Please bring your ID and test results. On the day of your procedure, eat a regular meal and wear comfortable clothes with short sleeves or ones that can be easily rolled up. You can bring snacks, sweets, a blanket, or headphones. If you tend to have low blood sugar, please inform your doctor.
3. The course of the procedure
The DFPP procedure typically lasts 3–4 hours and is performed in a comfortable, private room. The patient remains under constant medical supervision.
- Initially, two intravenous lines are placed in both upper limbs.
- A sterile, disposable set of filters and connections is installed.
- The device draws blood, which is separated into plasma and morphotic elements. The red blood cells are immediately returned to the body, and the plasma passes through two filters, where harmful substances, antibodies, toxins, and heavy metals are removed.
- Washed plasma is returned to the patient and contaminants are removed into a waste bag.
- Blood thinning medications (e.g. heparin) may be necessary during the procedure.
- The procedure is painless – the only discomfort may occur during needle insertion, similar to a blood draw.
4. Aftercare
After the procedure, the patient can benefit from an individually selected intravenous vitamin therapy adjusted to their needs.
- We recommend that someone accompany you home after your first treatment, as anticoagulants may cause short-term dizziness.
- For 24–48 hours after the procedure, you should avoid intense physical activity (e.g., gym, running). However, you may return to light daily activities.
- Most medications can be taken as usual, but you should always discuss this with your doctor.
- If you experience any disturbing symptoms (e.g. severe dizziness, bleeding at the injection site), please contact the clinic immediately.
5. Planning subsequent treatments
The number of DFPP sessions is determined individually by the physician, depending on the patient’s health status and treatment goals. Some people need only one treatment, while others may require several sessions.
